As some of you already know, my other hobby is Scottish genealogy, and I have even published a 278 page book on my research. Today will be a Scotland double feature here, with the first half being Scottish-American models. We start with Jerry Kerr in a photo I think is probably by Kris Studio due to the Chicago location. He and I would have had the same name if a Colonial era land registrar hadn't changed to spelling of my family's surname. The variants of this Scottish Clan's name spelling include Kerr, Carr, Ker, Karr, Kear, and Carre. My branch is from Dalry in Ayrshire, but there is another, larger group in the Borders County of Roxburghshire near the towns of Jedburgh and Ancrum.
I am from Clan MacFarlane, one of six clans who started the Lock Lomond Distillery over two hundred years ago.

Now Jerry, have I ever my mentioned my Scottish ancestry? My mother was from Pierowall on the island of Westray in Orkney. Mind you, I'm led to believe the Orcadians (those that hail from Orkney) are Orcadian first and Scottish second.
ReplyDeleteNo you haven't mentioned it, but you should be proud of it. The Orcadians definitely consider themselves to be different, and for good reason. After all, they are half (or more) Viking, and those Norsemen got around. I have no known ancestors from Orkney or the Shetlands, but I have Y-DNA matches to men in Norway and Sweden with an as yet unidentified common ancestor around 1000 A.D. who had sons in Scotland.
