Musketeer
The sketches Allyn Cox made before painting his mural not only left off
the clothes, but they often showed models holding imaginary props. In this one
he fortunately left off the clothes as usual, but included a musket.
Do you think his unit was attacked while bathing?
ReplyDeleteNo. Cox sketched his subject nude first and then added clothes to the final version. He said it made the finished works look more realistic.
DeleteSorry. I was being facetious.
DeleteOh, we need emoticons on this site sometimes, lol.
DeleteWonderful. He knew the musket would dictate the model's stance. And what a beautiful stance.....so much better without clothes.
ReplyDeleteIt's a real blessing that this artist's sketch books have been preserved.
DeleteIt certainly is. I often find I get more from preparatory sketches than the final work. This is lovely.
