Crupi

Initially, I thought this was a von Gloeden photo, but a Google Images search indicated that it was taken in 1899 by Giovanni Crupi, a friend of v.G.  So now I need to research Mr. Crupi.

  1. I'm surprised at the relatively high technical quality. Some of v. G.'s stuff was hampered by the technology of his era. This seems a bit better.

    1. I'd say it's somewhat better than v.G.'s typical work, so Crupi either got lucky or was a very good photographer. My search produced little more of interest, though.

  2. I really do not know why - the locale? the scenery? the blankets? the haircuts? or the light - but this photograph cannot be anything but Italian.

  3. Beautiful photo and I agree that the technical quality is very good for its age.
