1930s, Part 1 - Male Nude Photos

It's 1930s day on the blog with a double feature, starting with photos and followed by some art.
Although not unheard of (Lynes did a few in the 30s), the natural outdoor setting in this picture was a bit unusual for the time.  It looks professional, but the photographer and model are unknown.

  1. Great light-shadow play in this one! That hair looks 1920-ish, IMHO.

  2. The use of shadows (just not BD's favorite shadows) on the model's body is very good. It shows how he fades in and is a part of nature. And, yes BD that haircut became common in the 20's and 30's.

    1. Yes, the photographer walked a fine line between camouflaging the model and gently accentuating him. He got it right.

  3. Delightful, a sylvan experience captured.

  4. I wonder how old the model is. His build is very slight and smooth. The opposite of muscular. Because of that, he looks very young. But he may just be pampered, a no-lifting life.

    1. After reading your comment, it occurred to me that he might have been a dancer. Quite a few dancers posed nude for G.P. Lynes, Earle Forbes, and others around that time.

  5. My guess is that it is Platt-Lynes himself around 1930

    1. Yes, it looks like him, and he did pose for other photographers. Somehow, I don't imagine this as a self portrait.
