This is either from the 1896 Yukon gold rush or shortly thereafter, so I'm assuming that the man on the moose was a miner or prospector. (Yes, moose were actually used as pack animals and for transport.) Bullwinkle never looked that good, and I would really like to pet them both.

DeleteI suspect the moose is AI, the tell is the blurry background. AI likes that style, but to do it in an actual photo (that isn't a closeup) requires a wider aperture than camera lenses had back then.
ReplyDeleteI actually suspected the same, but I managed to authenticate the photo via a Canadian historical website. The only question is the exact date.
