Many observers are uncertain as to whether John Barrington intended from the start to include
all the lighting and other gear, or if he was just too lazy to crop it out. From what I've seen
of his work, it could easily go either way. The model here is Steve Wengryn.
I wouldn't mind this one too much, IF it was part of a collage, with another one unencumbered by equipment!!! 😮🏋🏾♀️. His models are top-notch.

ReplyDeleteEven he beat a path to the London studio of Barrington. He must have been appalled at the mess of Barrington compared to other physique studios.
From what I've read, a few of the others were just as messy, but they managed to keep the clutter out of the pictures.
DeleteIt kind of works in a peculiar way, but this model needs no distraction of any kind. Again, another photographer would have worked magic with him.
ReplyDeleteFor all his faults, we have to give Barrington credit for marketing male nudes in the UK at a time virtually no one else was. He had a few runins with the law as a result.
DeleteThat is true, UK laws during that time were extremely tough. He went full tilt in a time not many did.
