A. Exner

This well oiled boxer was photographed by A. Exner.  Were the Germans the first to oil athletes
to help define muscles in the images?  I think this predates by quite a bit the
American trend to oil bodybuilders for physique photographs.

  1. He IS shiny, isn't he? Does his bush look shaved?

    1. I don't think he shaved down there, but all that grease may have slicked it down.

    2. Ja, Hans Suren.
Traurig zu sagen, dass er ein Nazi wurde.

  3. Early days of photography required a lot of light because films were less sensitive. So perhaps this is due to having to stand perfectly naked under strong lights for a while which would make the model sweaty. (and they weren't LED lights, they were pretty hot lights back then). (just a theory).

  4. Gorgeous pose. I rather like the full oil look here.
