Poor Domalde had been cursed by his stepmother and everything imaginable went wrong during his reign. It was persistent crop failures and the resultant famine that did him in. Given how good looking Larsson painted him, I would have suggested some alternate fertility enhancing ritual.

DeleteThanks for today's art lesson - for a few reasons I won't drudge through here, travel is not in the cards, so always glad to see the visual records of those who can travel. And really good photos (from a technical perspective).
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. It's not always easy to get decent photos in museums due to glare, approach angles, etc., but having a really good camera (Pixel 8 phone) helps a lot.

You're welcome, Pat! I highly recommend Sweden. I found the Swedes, although not the most outgoing of people, to be friendly and helpful whenever one engages with them. And if you do go, be sure to visit Uppsala. It has a fantastic university campus/vibe and some small, but outstanding museums.
