Larry Lara

Closing out the set with a special photo of Larry Lara, the lover of another excellent photographer, Crawford Barton.  Larry and Crawford were important figures in the emerging San Francisco
gay community of the late 1960s and 1970s.  Jim French did an amazing group of photos
of Larry, and I plan to post an entire set of them.  Sadly, both Larry
and Crawford died of AIDS in the early 1990s.

  1. You constantly outdo yourself, Jerry. This is an excellent series. Thanks!

  2. Colt Studios (alias Jim French)...the gold standard for male photography! Thanks for posting photos of some lesser known models...at least to me!

  3. Dear Jerry, I must confess I was left a little unsatisfied yesterday with all those handsome men in swimsuits. It's sometimes good not to see everything, as you often say, but I still felt something was missing. However, today is pure ecstasy! This series is magnificent in every way! The models are extraordinary, muscular, but not super-bodybuilder like the musclemen of today! Plus, that last model is hairy, just the way I like them! Bravo for this series!

  4. Nice selection of their stable of models. Colt is still the gold standard for showcasing masculine men. I would love to hear stories from the "behind the scenes" people who worked for them. Nice viewing on a cold winter's day!

    1. Maybe not quite what you seek, but I'm from LA, and Colt models Carlo Masi and Steve Kelso both did both signings at A Different Light Bookstore (now defunct) in W. Hollywood. The latter attracted a BIG crowd; that was '91.

Another European one (sorry, don't recall his name) did massage work, and I'd booked an appt. This was probably around '12-'13.

    2. I remember that bookstore sad to see it was gone when visiting in around 2011. Would be nice to hear the models experience in working for them, how they were treated etc. And those behind the lens, who were difficult and diva like. Lol.

  5. I'm not sure, but I think he did a "dual" shoot with another Colt model...

    1. I have seen duals by his lover Crawford Barton, but I would never rule out a Colt pairing.
