Exam I
I didn't know they made recruits sign at induction medical exams.

I have read it is to ensure they are not hiding pre-existing medical conditions that might affect their ability to serve. Should anything go wrong the military wouldn't be held responsible.
I can see that happening during the Great Depression when men would do anything to get a job in the army. When I was being confronted with the draft in 1969, there were a lot of guys faking maladies rather than failing to disclose them. There were even guides distributed on how to flunk the physical.
