1935 Art

Closing out the Superman series with another item from one of their art supplements.  This one is called "Strength in Subjection," and the model was Leo Saxone of London.  Suddenly I'm thinking of Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company at Monterrey Pop:

Having seen Janis in person, I can only say she was a tortured soul and a genius.

  4. Another interesting series Jerry! Speaking of Janis, I've been watching her appearances on The Dick Cavett Show, what a powerhouse and a most amusing guest. Try (Just A Little Bit Harder) is still a favourite. The whole Kozmic Blues album is a classic.

    1. Did you see the Cavett Show where Janis had the hots for the hunky football player? She was a University of Texas dropout, and I was lucky enough to see her triumphant return to Austin. She bantered a bit at the start of the concert about the trials of student life and then suddenly went into Down on Me. We went nuts. She had last been seen there sitting on a bar stool in Threadgill's Tavern strumming a guitar and singing folk songs. Folk songs!
