Tug of War
Thomas Eakins frequently took his students on outings where they engaged
in various activities nude. The photo above shows detail from a tug of war.
Men in America were comfortable with communal nudity at the time. It's being photographed that would have been strange. All for the sake or art, as they say.
The students readily agreed to undress in front of their professor. Outside of the workshop, I find that strange! The photo is very beautiful!
