J. Brian (born Jeremiah Brian Donahue) is best known for work in the flood of gay nudity that appeared in magazines following liberalizing court decisions in the 1960's. Based in San Francisco, Brian published full frontal nudes several years ahead of Bob Mizer of AMG. At one point he was literally run out of town and decamped first to Marin County and later to Hawaii, sometimes using the trade name Calafran and sometimes J. Brian.
