Jack Mitchel

Jack Mitchell took this picture of a scene from And Puppy Dog Tails,

a popular gay themed 1969 Off Broadway play.

Jack Mitchell

It's Jack Mitchell day, and I don't have a name for our first model.

Tony Stevens

Tony Stevens appears in a multiple exposure image.

Jack Mitchell did several of these in 1973-74.

And Puppy Dog Tails

This is a phot of part of the cast of the gay themed play And Puppy Dog Tails.

Kenny Ortega

Kenny Ortega was a Hair cast member in 1972.

Brahm

I posted another two photo post of Brahm, sometimes spelled Braham,

hoping someone knew his full name.  No luck, so I'm trying again.

Patrick Ameche

This photo of a smirking Patrick Ameche appeared in After Dark.

Flora

Mr. Mitchell did at least half a dozen photos using this model with a leaf and flower motif.

I've never seen them all together, but I have to wonder if they weren't meant to be seen as a set.

Outlier

No this isn't a reprise of my recent John Barrington series.  A reputable online auction

house found this in a private estate collection labeled as by Jack Mitchell.

If it's his, it's a rare outlier to his usual precise editing process.

1965

I think this is the oldest item in my Jack Mitchell collection.

The untitled work is dated 1965.

Cal Culver

Ending the Jack Mitchell series with Cal Culver, aka Casey Donovan.  I have to admit

to being bored with this model.  Not only does he appear in Mr. Mitchell's portfolio about

two dozen times, but he had a separate career as a porn star in film and magazines.

Having said that, there's a reason he was so popular in so many venues.

Jack Mitchell

Returning to the work of Jack Mitchell today.  The photo above was made at one of his gallery shows where his amazing talent for portraiture was on display.  Although I won't be posting

those today, take a look online if you want to see some amazing work of that sort.

Outtake?

My source wasn't sure if this was an outtake from a photo session

or the way Jack Mitchell intended it to be seen.

Cal Culver

The double exposure is really nice in this image of Cal Culver, aka Casey Donovan.

Brian Poer

This sleeping beauty is Brian Poer.

Milton Dean I

Jack Mitchell did a whole series of photos of Milton Dean using plant and floral overlays.

I'm not crazy about the techinque, but it is interesting in a way.

Kodachrome

I cropped this from a whole page of very similar Kodachrome slides.

"And Puppy Dog Tails"

This my (probably unexpected) favorite of the day.  It is the cast of the 1969 Gay Liberation play,

"And Puppy Dog Tails," one of the highest grossing off-Broadway productions of the year.

Body Parts

This was in a group of photos for sale on a high end auction website labeled as "Jack Mitchell: Body Parts."  I don't know if that was Mr. Mitchell's name for them or the sellers'.

Cal Culver II

Cal Culver is making a second appearance today for two reasons.  First, I recently found half a dozen "new" Jack Mitchell photos of him, and second, this one is rather different from the other.
