Jockstrap Day

Today's jockstrap theme is by request from a certain viewer in 

Phoenix, but before we start the show, here's a classic ad from 1960.

Note how the unit hanging on the locker door looks filled.

"Buy a Bike, and yours will look this big."

 

Needed one

We start the jockstrap show with a young man in a tree from 1933.

From the looks of that bulge, he needed good support.

 

Art effort

There's some effort at art in this photo, but the jockstrap doesn't fit somehow.

 

Taping room

This is a taping room at a college football facility.  Tape would be placed around ankles, knees, wrists, and even elbows to minimize damage and pain from injuries.  Many players shaved the affected areas to avoid getting a handful of body hair pulled out when the tape was removed.  I even knew one guy whose entire chest was taped due to cracked ribs, and the coaches let him play that way.  Sad.

 

Mixed eras

The Milo Bar Bell Co. put a jockstrap on an ancient Greek warrior.  It would probably have

 gotten him thrown out of his phalanx . . . or asked out on a date by a prescient fetishist.

 

U of Texas

This was supposed to have been made at my alma mater, The University of Texas.

Apparently their modern for the time athletic gear made the LIFE archive.

 

Curly

This curly headed bubble butt looks familiar.  Maybe I saw

 him in another picture before he grew his mop.

 

Maybe professional

Ending our jockstrap series with a shot that I thought might have been professionally done.

Then I saw the photographer's shadow in the foreground, and now I'm no so sure.

 

When random isn't random II - Angular arrangements

A few months ago, I did a series of men from my "random beefcake" files in poses which weren't the usual vertical, horizontal, or perpendicular sort.  Today, we have another group of unknowns.  I'm pretty sure this photo is by AMG, but I don't have a clue as to who the model is. 

 

Wrestlers

I find the lighting and entwinement of the two men quite nice,

not to mention the interesting angular arrangement.

 

Bar stool

The model gives us a hockey stick shape while using a bar stool in a different way.

 

Wall holder

Holding up a wall is hard work.  I hope he got paid well.

 

Trollop on a ride

Somebody out there will probably know who the hairy guy is, but I doubt anyone knows the trollop he's hauling off.  These two did a memorable photo shoot together, part of which was done in a cave.

Besides comic relief, the trollop provides a nice diagonal element to the composition.

 

Handsome

For some reason, I keep looking at the position of this handsome model's fingers.

 

Odd one

Ending the angular series with a picture where the model is almost perpendicular, but everything else is akilter.  Did the photographer use a tilted set, or did he tilt the negative onto the print?  Oh, and this one gives me a strong George Platt Lynes feeling, but as in all of todays photos, I have no attribution.

 

Muybridge medley

Our set today features a variety of photos by Eadweard Muybridge.  We start with an African American model who never fails to impress with his beautiful form and muscles.

 

Long title

I don't know if it was some later curator or Muybridge who titled this one:

"Man lying on a couch and turning over on side."

 

Extreme leapfrog

This was probably just a gymnastics exercise,

but it looks like an extreme form of leapfrog.

 

Climbing

This student climbing a ladder might please the Bum Brigade.

 

Just standing there

Sometimes all someone has to do to look good is just stand there.

 

Throwing?

This is supposed to be Muybridge himself throwing a disc underhanded.

He looks for all the world to me like he's just walking along.

 

My favorite Muybridge model

Our last Muybridge image of the set is my favorite middle-aged, 

balding, slightly chubby, mustachioed model heaving a big rock.

 

Bob Wilson, aka Charlie Day, gets out of uniform - Thanks to Brian E.

Bob Wilson, aka Charlie Day, appeared in a pre-Christmas series over at Men From Back Then , 

and I lamented in the comments that I only had a few pictures of this fine model.  The next day I 

had a veritable feast in my inbox from Brian E.  So today we'll take a look at this guy getting out 

of a U.S. Navy Lieutenant Junior Grade outfit.  I doubt that he was actually a naval officer, 

given the number of large tattoos he had, but who knows?  Also, we never see him 

actually fully in the uniform, so it may not have even fit him.  Thanks, Brian!

 

Shoes

This one leaves me wondering if Charlie kept his shoes on through the whole photo shoot.

 

Just standing there hanging out

Charlie looks like he's asking the photographer why he's just standing there 

with his pecker hanging out.  Also, I think Bob Wilson (or Bob something) may 

have been Charlie Day's real name since the tattoo on his left arm says "BOB."

 

Flipped?

I think the image may have been flipped in this one because that looks like the back of the magazine, and the noteworthy tattoo is on the opposite arm in some of today's other shots.

 

Low hangers

Charlie Day's low hangers get our notice in this picture.

 

Straight in the eye

We get a direct look at the camera in this one.

 

Contemplative

Some guys contemplate their navels.  Charlie's contemplating something else.

Sunbathers

Our theme for Tuesday is sunbathers, and we start with something 

from Mr. Scumbeast which he included in a series he called "In the Dunes."

 

Classic 50s hair

That classic hair style from the 1950s doesn't have the usual amount of grease.

Oh, and some of you will no doubt find his lightly furred bottom quite nice.

 

Secluded

This sunbather appears to have found a secluded spot to go au naturel.  

Those pebbles he's lying atop don't look too comfortable, though.

 

Military feel

I think these are German soldiers from the WWII era.

 

Lotion

This looks like it was taken in about 1930.  Did they have sunscreen back then?

 

Army blanket?

Is that an army blanket?

 

Bookworm

This guy is enjoying a book and a sunbath in a barren looking field.

 

Cloudy day

Closing out the sunbathing series with what I'm pretty sure is a professional photo 

of a paid model with great tan lines.  The sky looks cloudy, but remember, you can 

get a memorable sunburn on a cloudy day.  I know because I got one once.

 

Bernard Naceri

Some time ago I posted a photo which I had no ID for, but turned out to be French 

bodybuilder Bernard Naceri at a nudist camp shot by Bob Harvest.  Since then I've 

posted two others, and had requests for more.  So today is Bernard Naceri day, 

and I'm pleased to say I have enough left for a future set as well.

 

Demure

Mr. Naceri was not shy about posing frontally nude,

but he did some appealing semi-nudes as well.

 

For sale

This photo was listed for sale in a group of photos, the rest of which were individually labeled as Bernard Naceri.  It was, however, not specifically labeled like the rest.  Is it him?

 

Bernard Naceri appeared on about a dozen magazine covers, and this is one of the best.

The photo is by Douglas White, a photographer not known to me.  Time to research.

 

Tree

This one is yet another unattributed Naceri photo,

but it looks like Bob Harvest's style.

 

Arax

I can't imagine Gregor Arax doing just one photo of a fantastic bodybuilder like Bernard Naceri, 

but this shot from an Italian muscle magazine is the only one I can fince.

 

Merry Christmas from the Big Island of Hawaii

Happy Holidays from here on the Big Island of Hawaii, officially called Hawaii Island.

Things are quiet this Christmas.  Both of our most active volcanoes are taking a break, 

and we have already had our first blizzard on our highest peaks.  Those happen above 

10,000 feet and require snowplows.  Here's a snow shot from a previous year:

I'm lucky to live in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Tony Perry, and Tom Scott from the AMG movie Tommy's Christmas Present.

  I think I posted a different still from this Holiday cinematic classic last year.

All three of them look quite smug, and rightly so.

Unknown

Both the model and photographer for this Christmas card are unknown, at least to me.  Whoever the photographer was, he used the same posterboard sign in a photo with a different model that I posted in a previous Christmas series.  Happy Holidays, everyone!!!
