Scotty Bowers Day

As promised, I am doing a series on Scotty Bowers, Pimp to the Stars.  He not only arranged sexual escapades for some of the biggest names in Hollywood, but he also claimed to have participated in more than a few.  We start with a picture of him in LA at the end of World War II.

This solo shot of Scotty Bowers was taken in an area of scrubby brush.

 

Wyngate & Bevins I

Over a third of the photos of Scotty Bowers in my collection are Wyngate & Bevins products, and they always show him with other models.  The remarkable thing is that he was at least 42 years old when these were made, and he more than holds his own with models who were in the 20s . . . or even teens.  In this one he is in what I think is a relatively unusual W&B duo with a model who appears in a bigger group with him later in today's series.

I don't know if this mountainside shot was made poorly or the victim of a bad scan.

The moderate oil and bamboo screen might be a clue as to who took this photo.

This is another picture from that mountainside photo shoot 

where all the pictures seem to have turned out blurry.

Finishing with a studio photo that leaves me wanting to know who the photographer was.

Nine Male Nudists

Closing with a photo from a W&B set called Nine Male Nudists.  Yes, I know there are only five here, but the real point of interest is the guy at far right.  That's notorious Hollywood pimp and tattletale, Scotty Bowers, looking pretty decent for being about 40.  I plan to give Mr. B his own set soon.

but am I the only one who thinks he might be Scotty Bowers?

George Quaintance Day, Part 1 - Nude Photos

George Quaintance was best known for his art work which appeared in Physique Pictorial and on the covers of "legitimate" bodybuilding magazines in the late 1940's and 1950's.  We will see some of that art work in the second half of today's double feature, but let's start with some of Quaintance's photographs.  This is Scotty Bowers, a bisexual Hollywood sexual procurer known only to his clients and a few insiders in the gay community at the time this photo was made.

Scotty Bowers, "Pimp to the Stars," dies at age 96

News Item:

Scotty Bowers has passed away at age 96.  I have mentioned him from time to time in my blogs due to his claims, some confirmed and some denied, to have had sex with a number of male and female movie stars from the end of World War II into the 1960's and 70's.  In fact, Bowers was quoted that it was only the arrival of AIDS in the 80's that got him out of the sex circuit.  Procurement was also a Bowers specialty, and he had a long list of clients and their sometimes peculiar needs.  Here is an obituary from the Washington Post:

This is perhaps what all the excitement was about in reference to Scotty Bowers in the 1940's and 50's.  There are about a dozen nude and semi-nude photos of Scotty in circulation from that era, but the only one I can find an atrribution for is one by George Quaintance in which Bowers has on slacks.  The style of this one does closely match Quaintance's style, though.

Special Bonus Photo, Scotty Bowers

This is Scotty Bowers, the now famous (in certain circles) "gay pimp to the stars."  Scotty was a returning World War II GI who got a job pumping gas in Los Angeles.  His real job, however, was fixing up the closeted gay movie stars of the day (both male and female) with hot dates for pay.  Among his clients and tricks were Spencer Tracy,  Katherine Hepburn, Walter Pidgeon, Tyrone Power, Cole Porter, Vivian Leigh, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.  Somehow in the midst of all that, he found time to pose for this photo by George Quaintance.  Too bad he kept is pants on!
