George Daniel, 1911-2002

George Daniell (1911-2002) is a photographer I came across while recently researching Herb Ritts.  I really like what I have found of his work so far.  Born in Youkers, NY, Mr. Daniell was traumatized as a child when his father committed suicide at the family dinner table.  I had seen the photo above before, but didn't know it was his.  It is dated at 1955, but I haven't found the model's name.

Johnny

Johnny di Orio posed almost naked on the beach at Fire Island in 1947.
And no, I don't know what that is over his crotch.

Mystery

I'd love to know the story behind this one.

Watercolor

George Daniel was also quite good with watercolors.

Fire Island

This striking work is Daniel Oliver at Fire Island in 1949.

Hudson

Here we have one of a number of photos George Daniell shot along the Hudson in the late 1930s.

This is Dick Butler with dinner at Key West in 1963.

No title

I have no title for this George Daniell watercolor, but I like it.

Miami Connection

Although he was born and raised in the New York area, George Daniell spent a lot of time in Miami where this photo was presumably taken.  In fact, there is a museum there for his work.

Yonkers 1938

Our last George Daniell photo was taken in 1938 on the Hudson River in Yonkers, New York.
