This nudist is hanging out his towel to dry on a short clothesline in the woods.

 

Woodsy

This woodsy scene has men with varying levels of modesty.

 

Skinny with double shadow

Here we see a skinny young man with not one, but two shadows that will interest Big Dude.

 

Frenchmen

This is from a group of photos Larry K found of mid-20th Century Frenchmen.

One of them is providing a bit of extra entertainment.

 

Russia 1944

We are quite accustomed to seeing World War II Germans naked in a variety of settings, 

but leave it to Larry to find a Russian getting a bath near the front lines.

 

Interesting

I feel like there has to be a story behind this one.  

The backdrop looks as though it was intended for photography.

 

Swedes

These guys are Swedes having fun in what looks like a drainage canal in a forest.

 

Thatch overflow

We get crotch thatch overflowing from under the posing strap in this one.

 

Germans in Italy?

Although Larry's source didn't provide any provenance for this photo, it resembles the work by the late 19th and early 20th century German expatriates in Italy.  The model, however, doesn't fit the type unless we consider that they sometimes photographed visiting friends from home.

George Platt Lynes . . . Again

Between photo releases from the Kinsey Institure collection and estate sales of photos entrusted by George Platt Lynes to friends and models, some pictures I haven't previously seen have been appearing on line.  Most of today's photos are from that group, and others were already in my collection.  Our first image is an unidentified young man against a graffiti laden wall.  I'm wondering if Mr. Lynes invited his friends and models to write on that wall.  It should have been preserved.

 

George Tichenor

Even though we don't get a full view of his face, it's obvious that George Tichenor 

was a very handsome man.  As for how his body is posed, it is simply sublime.

 

Yul Brynner

George Platt Lynes famously photographed a young Yul Brynner in the nude before he became a major star of stage and screen.  This is one of only a few of those that I haven't previously posted.

 

Two men

The Advocate featured this photo in a special piece on George Platt Lynes.

 

1954

All I know about this one is that it was made in 1954 and I like it.

 

Tex and Buddy

Tex Smutney (left) and Buddy Stanley posed for a fairly extensive group of photos in Lynes' portfolio.  This horizontal arrangement one of the more interesting, but they're all pretty good.

 

African Americans

George Platt Lynes did not shy away from photographing African-American men or mixed race groups.  This is a "new" find from a photo shoot of these three unnamed men.

 

Bobby Evans

I don't know where to start with this photo of Bobby Evans, but it all leads to the quizzical place in my mind where things don't really have to make sense.  He's sitting on a neatly wrapped parcel, his foot is resting on what may be a letter, he's holding a garment, and he's wearing a hat, the type of which I can't make out.  And then there's that expression.  Somehow, it works.  Lynes was a genius.

 

Teddy Chitwood

For some reason, I'm curious to know what Mr. Lynes used 

for the screen effect in this photo of Teddy Chitwood.

 

Different version

The last image in today's George Platt Lynes series is from the same photo shoot as a similar

 picture I posted five years ago.  This one has the model tilted more to the side.

 

Duane Michals Day

Today will be Duane Michals Day, and we start with a piece from the Leslie-Lohman Museum 

called The Old Man Photographs the Young Man from 1978.

 

Windows

This one is all about windows . . . and the model's rear end.

He seems to be holding something to read.

 

Anatomy lesson

I previously posted a front facing version of this anatomy lesson photo.

 

Triumph

My source didn't identify either of the models here.

 The photo is one of at least six boxing themed works by Duane Michals.

 

Multiple

This apparent multiple exposure is my favorite of the day.

 

America

I included this totally G-rated photo called America because I find it striking.

 

Collage

Collage elements set this photo apart from the rest of today's series.  It doesn't take 

much imagination to guess what those white tadpole-like squiggles might represent.

 

Toweling off

The lighting is exceptional in this Duane Michals photo of a man toweing off.

I can't tell if the bar of light at right is accidental or intentional.

 

Antlered

Mr. Michals wrote himself that "He became an antlered creature."  'Nuff said.

 

Narcissus

Our last Duane Michals photo of the day is a piece 

from a photo shoot on the them of Narcissus.

 

Segue Week, Day 7 - Striped Shorts

For the last day of Segue Week, your friendly blogger is indulging one of his quirky likes, 19th and early 20th C. men in form fitting striped shorts or bathing suits.  We start with a well built man who would seem to be showing off.  And why not?  When you've got it . . . 

 

Beach crowd

There are quite a few suit and body types in this croweded beach scene.

 

Janeke

I found this and about 25 other photos from the same session on an old time wrestling website labeled only "Janecke." I wanted to know which of the men was Janecke, but it turns out that it was the name of a manager and promoter.  Apparently these two were in his stable.  Must have been nice.

 

Prime beef

This looks like one of those early 20th C, floating bathhouses they had in Scandinavia and Australia.  Too bad they are wearing suits, but there's still some nice beef on display.

 

Onesie

Here we see a burly fellow in a cave man onesie with a single stripe.

I know, that's minimal in terms of stripes, but I just had to post this guy.

 

Industrial

This attractive young man seems to have taken a swim off some sort of industrial dock.

 

A different view this time

Hermann Heid took this picture of a strong man, a different photo 

of whom I posted several weeks ago.  This time we see him from the rear.

 

Suitable for framing . . . and enlarging

There's a lot going on here, and I recommend enlarging the photo if your device allows.

The guy at center with the cap looks like an early day leather man at the beach.

 

Muldoon and Whistler

These two are William Muldoon (l) and Clarence Whistler.  The stripes are understated, but present, and I'm sure both of these guys would provoke some wolf whistles in modern days.

 

Knee socks and street shoes

Bringing Segue Week to a close with this puzzling 1900-ish photo of a man in his striped swim suit.  Why he is wearing street shoes and knee socks is beyond me.  When I posted it back in 2018, nobody had a clue.  Of course, not that many folks were viewing my blog back then.

 

Segue Week, Day 6 - Waterfalls

Today we pick up with watefalls from the end of yesteday's series.

Our first subject is looking at his hands.  "Out damned spot!"

 

Opera audition

This guy looks like he's auditioning for the opera.

 

Scenic

The waterfall is more impressive than the man here.

 

1906?

OK, this looks more like a millrace than a waterfall, but it fits the set.

My source said this was made in the USA in 1906.  Did men have buzzcuts then?

 

Naked Swim 80

This is Naked Swim 80 from the Mr. Scumbeast Collection.

 

Scary

That looks scary.

 

Blurry

The man is blurry, but the rocks and waterfall seem sharper.  He must have moved.

 

Shower

Nice rear view of this guy getting a natural shower.

 

Not covered

If this guy is trying to cover up, he's not doing the best job.

 

Key element

There's one element in this watefall photo that I have a "thing" for.
