Honcho, January of 1981 - Part 1

Since I expanded my limit for vintage to 1985, I have been posting more material from magazines such as Mandate, Honcho, and Playguy.  While organizing my files recently, the Honcho isue from January of 1981 stood out for an unusual number of high quality models and photos.  Today I will be posting ten photos from that issue, to be followed in a few weeks by ten more.  For some reason, the cover and a few of the interior shots were Christmas themed.  Better late than never?

Tom Hartung

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

Tom Again

Here's a second view of Tom Hartung that I like better than the first.

Nova Ad

Sometimes the ads were almost as good as the featured material,
and this one by Nova isn't even one of the best.

Teaser

The rest of this piece wasn't as good as the opener.

Man of Steel I

The last five images in today's series are all from a single photo spread called Man of Steel.
The photographer is named as Michael Hoare, but the handsome model was not identified.

Man of Steel II

This is the first of two dual image pieces in the spread.

Man of Steel III - Centerfold

I think this was a centefold, but you can't see the staples
because of the way my source displayed it.

Man of Steel IV

And here we have the second dual image.

Man of Steel V

Our last shot shows the model looking across rooftops.  In a few weeks,
we'll take a look at ten more photos from this issue of Honcho.

Jason Steele

The May, 1983 edition of Honcho featured Jason Steele
in a photo essay by Zeus Studio.

Dirk Robbertze

This photo of Dirk Robbertze originally ran in 1974, but I found this "flashback"
in a much later issue.  Sadly, he died of AIDS in 1993 at age 43.

Topman Talk

My source says this fellow appeared in a piece called
Topman Talk in Honcho's January 1984 issue.

To Close

James Michaels was the photographer for this Honcho photo
that was apparently part of the last spread in April, 1981.

Maneuvers

In March of 1983, Honcho ran an eight picture military themed spread by John Krause
called Maneuvers.  I can't imagine not naming the fine model, but they didn't.

Touchdown

It was March of 1984 when  Honcho published this one by Matthew Newman.

Red

I don't know if Red is what they called the guy at Honcho, or if some
later collector added it.  The image is from February of 1983.

Honcho

My source  had no names for these Honcho men from February 1980.
The text does name the photographer as Malcolm Hoare.

Fire Island Pines

If you click on the Roy Blakey label at right and scroll back a bit, you'll see a frontal nude
of this model that I posted last year.  Only recently did I learn that it was part of a major
piece in Honcho in 1980.  Today I am posting the rest of the group of photos.

Honcho Day

The first male nude magazine other than Playgirl that I ever bought was Honcho.  I got it
in a now defunct drugstore on Royal Street in the French Quarter in the summer of '78.
Today we'll look at ten pages from 1978 to 1985, starting with this guy whom I've
seen referred to only as Frank.  He appeared in August of 1985.
