Leaning Men

We start our series of leaning men with Ray Routledge as photographed by Russ Warner.

Douglas of Detroit took this photo of an unknown beefy model.

Jim Corry posed for Arax of Paris in this derriere shot.

Al Urban took this impressive photo of an unknown model.

This Bruce of LA photo was labeled only "McGuire," and is part of a series I found that was supposedly made on a trip Bruce made to his home state of Nebraska.

Military Medicals, Part 2

The G-rated half of our military medical double feature kicks off
with a young man getting classified in his BVDs.

These World War I era soldiers are getting an outdoor exam in some interesting underwear.

Here we have astronaut Alan Shepard getting a preflight medical check.

The guy on the scale reminds me a bit of Joe Dimaggio.

These Australians are waiting for induction exams ca. 1940.

Military Medical Exams of a Most Intimate Sort

At various times, it becomes necessary for armies to check their troops for those intimate issues that go along with being a randy young man far from home and nice girls.  So it's VD exam day in the first half of today's double feature, followed by some more conventional matters in the second.

Gee, they even made some sort of special chair
for the Army doctor to get a good look at the equipment.

Mr. Scumbeast usually got straight to the point with his no-nonsense captions.
He called this one "Clap Inspection," and I can't argue with it.

I can't figure out if the exam or the photograph was restricted.  Maybe both?

The guy taking notes is missing out on the fun.

The Boy Next Door

Today marks the long overdue return (by request) of the "boy next door" theme.  All of today's photos were pirated by yours truly during the last days of tumblr nudity, so I have names for neither the models nor the photographers.  Those faucet handles look familiar somehow, but the young man does not.

Getting squeaky clean . . . and the hair's still perfect!
Edited to add:  This is by Champion as per comment by jsstrand.

These two fresh young faces were posed next to a decrepit ruin.
I have to give the unknown photographer credit for some artistic contrast.
Edited to add:  Read the comment(s) by jsstrand to learn more about this photo by RMX.

OK, this one is a bit too sultry for the category, but I had to include him.
Edited to add:  Comment by jsstrand tells us this is Dave Miller by Hy Chase.

This backyard model has the same popular '60's hair style as another guy in today's series.
(I had it too, and yes, I actually had hair back then.  I am not, however, either of these two.)

Eugene Jansson Day, Part 2 - Nude Art Works

Part two of our Jansson double feature contains five of his nude art works.
This one is rather unimaginatively called "Two Models."

The Floating Bathhouse was the scene of several Jansson paintings, and this is probably the best known.  It made the rounds on tumblr a few years ago, but no one (including me) mentioned that the guy at center approaching the diving board was Jansson's lover Knut Nylan.  And could the midair diver be Jansson himself?  We earlier saw a photo of him doing exactly that sort of dive.

This piece is wonderfully mundane and beautiful at the same time.

If you click on the label attached below this post, previous Jansson themed posts will come up, including one with a photograph believed to be the three models who posed for this drawing.

This untitled piece looks like a study, but I think I've seen it
in a tourist's photo made inside a museum.

Eugene Jansson Day, Part 1 - Nude photos at the Floating Bathhouse

Swedish artist Eugene Jansson was fond of spending time at the Swedish Navy's floating bathhouse swimming facility.  I have nine photos made there around 1905, some of which feature Jansson himself and his lover Knut Nylan, standing here right and left respectively.  The first half of our Jansson double feature focuses on these, followed by some of Jansson's art featuring Nyland and cadets as models.

I found this photo of two cadets boxing on a collectors' website labeled
"Jansson's Bathhouse Boxers, 1905."  I can't tell if that meant the photo was by Jansson
himself or just made at the bathhouse where he was so well known to hang out.

Here we see Eugene Jansson diving with an audience of about a dozen nude cadets.
I'd love to know who took these photos.  It probably wasn't Jansson's lover
Knut Nyland because he appears in most of them along with Jansson.

In addition to swimming, some of the naval cadets at the Floating Bathhouse got some exercise by running laps around the enclosure.  Here we can just barely see Jansson behind the front runner.

I posted this photo of Eugene Jansson (right) and his lover Knut Nyland on the diving board
at the Floating Bathhouse about a year ago, but I think it is worth a repeat.

Hippie Odds and Ends

Today I'm posting some leftovers from previous hippie series.
This guy looks serene in a nice garden setting.   Hippies liked serenity and nudity.

I think this is an AMG photo for some reason.
Edited to add:  James IV says in the comments that this is Danny Foster by AMG.  Thanks!

I had a friend in college who looked a lot like this guy,
and he liked to hang out naked at Hippie Hollow, too.  Hmmm . . .

Mr. Scumbeast called this one "hippie horseplay."

For some reason this photo makes me think of French nudists,
but it was firmly attached to my hippie folder, so here he is.

Pat Milo Day, Part 2 - Unhappy semi-nudes

Milo's models could look a bit surly even when they weren't nude as you will see in part
two of today's double feature.  Ted Wills here seems to have already torn up the set,
and he doesn't even have his drawers off yet.

I'm tempted to say that Roger Conte might be unhappy about the rather odd way Pat Milo dressed him for this picture, but based on what I've seen of his other photos, I think he looked this way all the time.

Marvin Barnette doesn't look too menacing, but he doesn't look happy either.

Jack Virgil looks like the guy in high school who would beat you up for your lunch money.

Robert Rex has his "don't mess with me" look on for this Milo shot.

Pat Milo Day, Part 1 - Scowling Nudes

The "tough guy" motif has been around as long as men have been taking nude photographs of other men.  Pat Milo seems to have excelled at the genre, though, so today's double feature focuses on some guys he photographed who are either trying to look tough or were having a really bad day . . . or both.  We start with Roger Conte who seems like he's about to lose it and hit somebody.

Pat Milo seems to have captured this image of Mike Wilson
just at the moment he appeared ready to punch somebody.

Here we see Larry Pearson and Bill Nolan, neither of whom look too happy.

This Milo photo is Marty Vogel.  Does he have a black eye?
That might account for his rather scowling expression.

Laffe Lorre does not look happy in this Milo photo.

Indigenous Australian Men - Photos provided by Larry K.

I sometimes hesitate to publish photos if indigenous men, but these pictures of Native Australians provided by Larry K. are beautiful and dignified in my opinion.  Thanks, Larry!
We start the series with this photo of Gwoya Jungarai (left) and a friend
from a 1936-37 piece in Outback Magazine by Roy Dunstan.

This group of men posed for an unknown photographer in Central Australia in 1910.

This picture of an indigenous man fishing with a spear was made by A.H.E. Mattingly in 1934.

Larry found this 1946 photo by an unknown photographer on an Australian historical website.

This was taken by Thomas Dick near Port MacQuarie, New South Wales in 1910.  I think it is a beautiful photograph of a beautiful man.  Thanks again to Larry K. for providing these photos.
