Jared in the Foam, Twice

We always have a frontal nude of Jared French in these PaJaMa series, not only because
he was quite prolific about posing nude, but also because the pictures are often good.
I'm showing two versions of this one.  Above we have a silver gelatin print that sold
for a solid price on an online resale site, and below we have a version from
the Smithsonian study collection.  It may seem odd, but in some ways,
I like the lower version better.

Jared

You regulars knew we weren't going to get through this without a naked photo of Jared French, who posed for literally hundreds of them in the Smithsonian donation.  At least this one is rather different.

Jared French I

This Jared French drawing show his ability to depict
the back muscles of an ordinary male.

Jared French II

This Jared French drawing is thought to be a study for a larger work.

George Platt Lynes Day

It's time for our quarterly George Platt Lynes series, and we start with one of his nudes
of Jared French which I have somehow not managed to post until now.

Magic Realism

Jared French did this 1950 drawing in the Magic Realism style.  Interestingly,
it was done of five separaate sheets of paper and had to be reassembled.

Study

This is said by some to be a preliminary study for That French Beach,
a painting that turned out quite differently when completed.
I think it might be a self portrait, fwiw.

Jared?

The more I look at this, the more I think it's Jared French
as photographed by Margaret Hoening French.

Photo Sketch II

As promised, here is the other side of the Jared French model shown earlier.

Jared and the Lighthouse

Jared French is undoubtedly the 20th Century artist photographed nude more than any other.
Most of those pictures, including this one, are attributed to his wife Margaret Hoening.
The setting is Fire Island with the lighthouse in the background.

Jared French I - Untitled

This Jared French drawing is typical of the work he was doing around 1950.
The square shouldered look appears again and again in that period.

Jared French II - The Boxer

Jared French's notes on this rough drawing of a boxer are interesting.  For those
of you who use translators or who can't make out the words, they say:
"Boxer's stance - a defensive stance, ready to double-up for protection"

1950 Was a Good Year

Today is all about the year 1950, and we start with a George Platt Lynes photo
of Jared French above and an unnamed study Mr. French did the same year below.

Jared French

When I look at Homesickness by Jared French from 1942,
the beautiful male form and the tan lines stand out.

Jared French Drawings II

Recently a number of drawings by PaJaMa member Jared French have come into the art resale market, so today I'm posting some of those, along with some that were already in my collection.  We start with a red pencil study for a painting called The Double.

Simple

The simple lines of this Jared French drawing work.

Jared French depicted three sleeping male nudes on the same sheet of paper here.

Paul Cadmus

There's something jarring about the eyes in this portrait of Paul Cadmus.

Pencil

Is it just me, or does the model's right arm seem awkward here?
