Name That Photographer

It's another Name That Photographer day, and it's a two part set, with part one being some well known men from physique modeling.  We begin with Ed Fury doing archery at the beach.

Ed Fury's Younger Days

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

Bruce II

Bruce of Los Angeles took this picture of Ed Fury and Paul Moffitt.
That's supposed to be Mr. Fury with his back to us.

AMG?

I've seen this photo attributed to AMG, but as you will see in a later post,
a group of similar shots in a catalog have been pegged to Bruce of LA.

Ed, Reg, and Sam

Left to right we have Ed Fury, Reg Lewis, and Sam Calhoun at a competition.

Catalog Item 4

This is cropped from a catalog page I found on line which said the photos were by Bruce of LA.
I have not found any corroborating information, but several well curated websites list many of the individual pictures from this session as unattributed.  Anyone know for sure?

Edmund Holovchik

Mr. Fury was known as Ed Holovchik when this picture
was made at Muscle Beach in the early 1950s.
His full name was Rupert Edmund Holovchik.

Bruce IV

Mr. Fury looks very young in a third one by Bruce.

Punchbowl

Mrs. Mizer's crystal punchbowl is the backdrop for this AMG item.

Catalog Item 13

Our last picture of Ed Fury is another item from the purported Bruce catalog.
Photo 13 is similar to another photo in today's set from the same shoot.

Ed Fury

I was surprised when a search turned up several references to a certain California
photographer as having taken this picture of Ed Fury.  Let's see if our sleuths agree.

Ed Fury

Sword and sandals movie actor Ed Fury had a fairly successful film career
despite having appeared nude in a large number of photos.
Here we see him in a photo by Bob Mizer of AMG.

Ed Fury, 1928-2023

Ed Fury passed away on February 24, 2023 at his home in Woodland Hills, California
at the age of 94.  Born Edmund Holovchik in Long Island, New York in 1928, he was an
orphan who took up bodybuilding in high school and moved to Los Angeles about 1947.
Once there, he continued his bodybuilding and began a long, successful trek into the movies.
Along the way, he posed nude for physique photographers and made the burgeoning
Muscle Beach scene.  Today I will post a long overdue tribute to this icon.

Desert color

The color and desert location of this early photo make me think it's by Bruce,
but like nearly all of today's physique shots, I don't have an attribution.

Looking away

Mr. Fury is looking away in this early nude shot.  I am posting some of my frontal nudes of Ed
out of chronological sequence to spread them through the series.  Some of you get anxious
if there isn't full nudity every two or three panels.  You know who you are, lol.

Movie busines . . . sorta

In 1949 Ed Fury posed for this publicity photo for a movie called Fabiola.
He wasn't actually in the movie, mind you.  Nice kitty.

Fine development

The muscles are amazing in this one.

Ahhhh . . . California

This beach photo is simple and beautiful.

Mr. Muscle Beach

That's Jackie Coey with Ed Fury in this 1953 photo made on Muscle Beach.  Ed was a big part of the scene there in the early 1950s, and he won the Mr. Muscle Beach title in 1951 and 1953.  I believe the photo below is from 1952 when he didn't win, but placed well enough for a trophy or two.
