Hippie Day

It's hippie day on the blog, and we begin the show with the first of several photos
from rock festivals. This one is a group at Leon's Lake at Woodstock.

Body Art

Body painting was a fad for a while among hippies.

Slide?

I think this image is from a slide.

School Buses

A certain subgroup of sometimes nomadic hippies had a fondness for living in old school buses.  In the case of these guys, however, I suspect that they simply found some cheap housing in a junkyard.  Of course, there's always a chance that somebody just saw a great photo opportunity.

Horseman

Some of you find naked men on horses to be attractive.  You know who you are, lol.

Isle of Wight

Jean Paul Margnac took this picture at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970.

Art

I think this might have been some sort of performance art.

Headstand

One of these guys took a break from skinny dipping to do a headstand.

Reminds me

This model reminds me of Rob Reiner.

Bull Island

Closing with a photo of some hippies at the Bull Island festival of 1972.  An organizational disaster,
several of the headline acts refused to perform due to squalid conditions, the crowd rioted
the last day, and three people tragically drowned in the Wabash River.
At leas they didn't hire the Hells Angels for security.

Longhair

I suppose they had hippies in Switzerland, and of course Karlheinz Weinberger photographed some.

Hippie Day

It's hippie day, and our first photo is a bearish protestor.

Shower

Someone rigged an outdoor shower somewhere in the country.

Waterfall

This guy is holding a stick in front of a waterfall.

Commune

Hippies founded dozens of communes, only a very few of which survive today.
This group painted a peace sign on their from porch.

Skinny Dippers

I think these two just went skinny dipping and are air drying themselves.

Italians

The Proletarian Youth Festival near Milan was the site of this 1975 photo. The proletarian
youth got naked and ran around for days until the beer and weed ran out.

Tom

This is a model whose name was listed only as Tom.  He reminds me a little
of the much lamented Rob Reiner, aka Meathead from All in the Family.

Style?

Yes, men did actually walk around like this back in the day.
