Kenn Duncan Day III

A small, but steady, stream of Kenn Duncan photos have shown up on the resale market in the 

past year or so, and today we will look at some of those, plus some I already had.

 

Jean Leclerc

An online auction offered both these versions of Jean Leclerc.  I suppose Mr. Duncan used different production methods because the cropping and the brightness are noticeably unlike one another.

 

Angles

Lots of interesting angles in this one.

 

David Vance

This is David Vance from 1975.

 

Rare Color

This is one of only two color photos I have found attributed to Kenn Duncan, 

and the other one is of the same model.  I'm glad he stuck to black and white.

 

Bill Cable

Even with his pants on, Bill Cable looks mighty fine.

 

Pose

The pose here is interesting, and I like the way the floor and the 

backdrop wall appear to seamlessly flow together.

 

Exceptional lighting

The lighting in this one works in all the right places.

 

Fashion

Kenn Duncan had success as a fashion photographer, and this is what passed for men's fashion 

in the early 1970s.  The magazine in which it appeared called it "cowboy hippie,"

but the reasonably attractive models look like neither.

 

A favorite

Despite the lack of a "money shot," this is one of my farovite Kenn Duncan photos.  

I love the visible body hair and the way it combines masculinity with gracefulness.

I only wish I knew who the fantastic model is.

 

Dancer

The final photo in our Kenn Duncan set is an unknown (to me, anyway) dancer.

 

Sports Figures in Shorts

Today we will look at some men in gym shorts who all appear to be involved in sports.  We start with an unknown French runner on the starting line of what looks like a cross country race.

 

George Peponis

This is Australian rugby player George Peponis from 1982.

 

Detroit Lions

Three rookies for the 1956 Detroit Lions posed for this photo.

I know some of you like white T-shirst with gym shorts, so enjoy.

 

Icing

I think this unknown athlete is about to ice his battered knee.

 

Bemidji State U

From the chilly lakes of Northern Minnesota, we have the Bemidji State University wrestling team

 from 1956.  Hopefully, they kept each other warm on those cold winter nights.

 

Bob Kuechenberg

Here we have Miami Dolphins star Bob Kuechenberg.

 

Thighs

Although he's obviously kitted out for some outdoor sport, I have no info on this one.

I do, however, have to comment on those prodigious thighs.

 

French Ruggers

These three are French rugby league players Gèrard Cholley, 

Alain Paco, and Robert Paparemborde from the late 1970s.

Mr. Cholley looks like he had a rough game.

 

Stop action

As the sports photographer for my high school yearbook,I really appreciate

 the difficulty of this stop action basketball shot.  The men aren't bad, either.

 

Dave Stieb

This is Dave Stieb of the Toronto Blue Jays from 1984.

 

Florida State 1963

And last, but not least, we have some Florida State football players from 1963.

They are all nice, but the guy at right is special.  Must be those legs.

 

Kovert of Hollywood Day

It's Kovert of Hollywood day on the blog and we start with a serious looking Larry Carr.

 

Scottie Allan or Scottie Bowers?

This is labeled as Scottie Allan on several well curated websites,

but am I the only one who thinks he might be Scotty Bowers?

 

Gene Meyer

Gene Meyer (sometimes spelled Mayer) posed several times for Freddie Kovert

as well at a few other 1940s physique photographers.

 

Leonard Chambers

This is Leonard Chambers, a model whose life was taken in a very questionable 

LA area police operation in 1956.  Bob Mizer wrote a protest essay 

in Physique Pictorial, something almost unheard of at the time.

 

Don Silvas and Andrew Marke

I think Freddie Kovert was going for some Classical murder scene

in this shot of Don Silvas (standing) and Andrew Marke.

 

Wally Schillicutt

I'm not completely certain about the Kovert of Hollywood attribution 

of this photo of Wally Schillicutt, but at least one reputable source says so.

 

Tom Mathews

If you feel like you've seen this photo of Tom Mathews quite recently, it's because 

Freddie Kovert put him in exactly the same pose as Larry Carr in today's first picture.

 

David DeBorges

We get a lot of oil and some dramatic staging 

and geometry in this photo of David DeBorges.

 

Pat Parris

I'm running out of Pat Parris photos that I haven't posted before,

but I may have saved the best for last.  That smile is gorgeous.

 

Unknown

Today's last Kovert of Hollywood model is an unknown 

man who posed with a Classical column.

 

Hairy Guys

Hairy men who don't appear to be typical physique models are our focus for today.  

I don't know who any of them are, and we start with a guy chugging down a Coors.

 

Stern

Here we have a stern looking fellow sitting on some brick steps.

 

Sunglasses

Not sure, but I get an amateur feel from this one, but I could be wrong.

I've been wrong lots and lots of times before.

 

Familiar

I found this guy on a German websitel listed as unknown, but I could swear I've 

seen him before.  He just barely met my standard for hairy, whatever that is.

 

Colt?

I couldn't find any information on this one, 

but he sure looks like a Colt "cowboy" model.

 

Invitation?

If this is an invitation, there must be long queue of guys wanting to accept.

 

"Daddy"

Here we have a man whom multiple bloggers want to call "Daddy."

None of them, however, seems to know his name.

 

Fur factor 10

This guy rates very high on my fur factor scale.

 

Another familiar face

Here's another one who seems familiar, possibly because Google

says he has appeared on about two dozen websites.

 

Different

Leaving you all with an outlier, a bearded fellow 

whose body hair all seems from the waist down.

 

James T. Gleeson - The Drawings

The paintings of Australian artist James T. Gleeson (1915-2008) have appeared here several times.  The best known ones look like surreal seascapes, sometimes with huge shellfish and hints of volcanoes.  Here is a link to my past posts:

Today, however, we will look at a dozen of his drawings, all of which present different viewpoint.

 

Balance

The model here looks like he's trying to keep his balance,

but it's hard to know without seeing his feet.

 

Unfinished?

The face and feet look unfinished, plus the top of his head is cut off,

but I still find myself lingering to look at this one at length.

 

Looking at us

The well built model here is looking right at us in an interesting way.

 

Wrestlers

I guess these guys are wrestling.  It doesn't look like dancing,

and I can't imagine what else it might be.

 

Pose

This is hands down the oddest pose in today's set.  I hope our resident

 life model David has some insight into what went into it.

 

Different

I don't know what process was used to make this one, and it probably isn't classed 

as a drawing, but I'm including it anyway.  I think it's remarkable.
