Swimming Upstream, Part 1 - Naked Guys Having Fun

Today we have a double feature focusing on swimmers of various types.

I think these guys are 1930s Germans.

 

I may have posted these six fine specimens before,

but I'm sure some of you have been missing them.

 

The seem to be pulling something out of the water, but we can't tell what it is.

 

What a fun day at the lake these two must have had!

 

These three seem quite happy to have their photo made while on a swim break.

 

Is that Bob Mizer?

This picture has puzzled me for quite a few years.  Some of the young men look like models whom I've seen in physique and porn photos from the late 1960s, so I wondered about what sort of outing they might have been on.  Recently, it occurred to me that the older man at front left bears a resemblance to Bob Mizer of AMG.  Could it be him with some of his models on a photo shoot or swim party?

 

Swimming Upstream, Part 2 - Onesies

Part two of our swimmers' double feature shows a variety of men in that early 20th C. 

bathing fashion, onesies.  They probably just called them "men's bathing suits" back then, 

and some even had "modesty" skirts or flaps to cover bulges.  We won't be looking at those.

The men in suits seem out of place in our swim or water polo team opener.

 

Mr. Scumbeast gave me this photo of a handsome duo 

who seem to have just gotten out of the water.

 

This affectionate trio is all entwined.  I'm sure they got sorted out shortly.

 

Bert and Chris here seem to have not gotten wet just yet.  

Pity, because they might look even better when wetter.

 

I think this is the UK Olympic water polo team from sometime in the 1920s.  Quite different from today's aquatic athletes, and I've never figured out the guy in shoes and socks.

 

Unknown Low Hangers . . . with two notable exceptions.

I recently had a viewer entice me to do a low hanger series with a really good 

quality photo that I have saved for last in today's set.  That will be the only one of two identified models, with the rest unknown, at least to me.  We start with a man and his chain.

 

The model in this one looks familiar, but I can't place him.

It would help if the tattoos were clearer.

I knew a lot of guys with this hairstyle in high school

before the surfer look took over.

 

It was a hard choice whether to use this photo now or save it for a bulldog theme later.

The landscape looks very California, fwiw.

 

This model appears to have a rather smug expression, but I can't blame him.

 

As promised, I'm ending with an identified model.  Many of you have seen this photo of Vic Seipke before, but it's always worth another look.  I'm posting it today because a helpful viewer, Jim in Florida, requested a low hanger series and sent this image which is better quality than the one I already had.  Thanks, Jim! 

 

Middle Aged (and older) Day, Part 1 - More Nudists

One thing (among many) that I respect about nudist culture is their acceptance of people

 of all ages.  For the first part of a double feature on men "of a certain age," I will feature 

some older nudist men, starting with this very happy looking guy.

 

This fellow seems to be in a tug of war involving a towel with a female companion.

His shoes and socks would draw opprobrium from Miss Magnolia Thunderpussy.

 

At first glance, I thought this gentleman was holding an early version

 of a cordless phone, but I think it's actually something else.

 

This very gray fellow enjoying a cup of coffee at a nudist 

caravan park seems to be in great shape for his age.

 

I think this chubby middle aged nudist,s hat was part 

of a silly pageant that he was helping to set up.

 

Middle Aged (and older) Day, Part 2 - Academic Art from Five Nations

For part two of our double feature tribute to men "of a certain age," we will look at some 

drawings of male nudes that are literally all over the world map, being from five nations.  

We start with Italy and this 1908 piece by Andrea Landini.

 

French artist Merry-Joseph Blondel made this excellent drawing of Neptune around 1800.

Note the parallel roughed in "ghost" drawing behind the models left foot and thigh.

 

Russian Alexander Ivanov produced this derriere view drawing of a beefy model in 1840.

 

American artist Edward Hopper did this academic study of a man with a staff around 1902.

The little stool in the left background is an interesting added element.

 

Brazilian artist Augusto José Marques Júnior did this drawing of an older model in 1906.

The man's confident expression comes through despite the damage to the piece.

 

Whips

Today's theme is whips and we start with what I believe is 

an unidentified model by Western Photography Guild.

I like the color in this unattributed photo of Don Fuller and Joe Leitel,

and I'm not generally a fan of color in vintage photos.

 

I don't know how to describe this one, so I'll leave it to the comments.

 

Bruce of LA took this photo of cowboy Mark Edwards with a whip.

 

This guy looks like a graduate of Helga Hottenstotter's Academy of Discipline in Stuttgart.

Probably had a double major in whips and intimidating stares, sunglass division.

 

GIF Day, Part 1 - Nude Snippets

I was wandering aimlessly through one of the less well organized sections of my 

archive the other day and suddenly realized that I had a whole bunch of GIF files that 

I had never posted.  So I'll take care of that omission with a double feature today.  

We start with a Bob Mizer/AMG go-go boy from the 60s.

Edited to add:  In the comments "j" says this is Monte Hansen.  I think he's right.

 

And here we have two trollops getting out of their drawers.

Edited to add:  James IV says in the comments that this is by AMG with John Apache at right.

 

 

I think somebody lifted this GIF of Bill Cable off an early VHS tape.

It's long, and takes a bit to load, but it's pretty good.

This grainy bit of film is from a Pathe' newsreel of British troops unloading drums of oil

 

 

Leni Riefenstahl shot this in 1938 during her stint as a Nazi propaganda film maker.

 

GIF Day, Part 2 - Rock Hudson Movie Snippets

Rock Hudson was the iconic romantic male lead through most of the 1950s and early 60s.  His 

movies with Doris Day, in particular, involved frequent scenes in which he was partially 

undressed or in teasing, but not overtly sexual situations.  The second half of today's double 

feature is devoted to some of my favorite GIF files from Rock Hudson movies.

 

Tony Randall appeared in a couple of Rock Hudson's movies with Doris Day.

 

I believe I've posted a still version of this snippet from "Lover Come Back" in the past.

 

I found this very short GIF on a movie website labeled only "corcora tenor."

However skimpy the info, Rock Hudson looks great.

steam room scene from "A Gathering of Eagles."

 

Obscure Studio - Bobco by Bob Carr

According to a Stanford University archive, Bob Carr founded Bobco Studio around 1960 and was active until about 1968.  (That's the second photographer of male nudes I've come across in the past few weeks who quit the business when liberalization occurred, the other being Danny Fitzgerald of Les Demi Dieux.)  Bobco's models seem to have all worked for other photographers, with Mike Stern shown here having worked for AMG and Bruce of LA.

 

Gerry Bradley here posed for Bruce of LA in a number of photos, some of which even 

included some of Bruce's trademark props.  In fact, several of those have been incorrectly 

(I think) attributed to Bobco on some websites.  It wasn't at all unusual for two or more 

photographers to have overlapping model pools, so I suppose it was inevitable that 

mix-ups would occur, particularly when an obscure studio was involved.  This derriere shot 

of Gerry is the only one attributed to either Bruce or Bob Carr.

 

Blackie Preston is better known for his work in Bob Mizer's Narcissus series

at AMG, but this Bob Carr photo is fetching in a simple sort of way.

 

Deak Rivers seems to be getting ready for bed in this Bobco photo.  Interestingly, 

Deak was featured in some AMG photos with fellow Bobco model Mike Stern.

Up against the wall . . . the rock wall, that is

Today we're going to look at some men and sheer rock walls.  We start with a seaside 

photo that my friend Mr. Scumbeast thought was a nudist caught by the tide.

 

This photo is a "stray" that I feel like I should have notes on, but I don't.  I'm thinking Dave Martin, 

but who knows?  And is that the little Speedo that gave him the tan lines at left?

Uncle Vic in the comments says this is by Denny Denfield, and I think he's right.
