We did it for science . . . or art . . . or some dirty old man

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a set of Paul Richard's medically oriented male nude photos.  Today I'm continuing in that vein with some efforts in comparative body types and anatomy.  We start with an example from the now infamous Ivy League "posture studies."   Saint Mary's College flight school. Google it for details.  Note correction, thanks to several viewer notes.

  1. His posture looks pretty good, as does his other asset.

    1. Seems like he was enjoying having his picture taken.

    2. At least it did not seem to bother him. But back then, males were a lot less inhibited than they are today.

  2. Just read about the "posture study." It seems silly, but today's prevailing prudery would certainly prevent another such "study" from occurring.

    1. I recall reading somewhere that most of the complaints at the time came from the parents of the relatively small number women in the "study."

    2. Yeah. The man whose article I read ( Rosenbloom) said the malesdid not mind as much because they were less concerned with stripping naked.

  3. Oh, Jerry, the homonyms got you again. *Ahem* Continuing in that vein... Regards, Captain Grammar Pants ;-)

    1. LOL, it's been so long since I wrote that, I don't remember enough to even recall if I had the dreaded autocorrect issues going at the time. I probably did it on my own, though.

    2. I had to go look it up. According to https://brians.wsu.edu/2016/05/19/vain-vane-vein/ your spelling of vein appears to be correct.

    3. I fixed it before you saw it, so it was wrong when I posted it.

  4. Stunning. I would have loved to be part of this study.

  5. Isn't it sweet that in the profile image, someone is holding his hands? :) Was it to "reassure" him?

    1. They're doing that in a number of these photos, and I think it may have been in order to keep their arms in a standard position for comparative purposes.

  6. I wonder if you'll find and publish any of my father, Thomas M. Boylan, Jr., who entered the Army Air Force from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1943.

    1. Jim, do you know where he was inducted? AFAIK, the only place the Army did this was at Fort Sheridan outside Chicago, and unlike the Navy flight school, they numbered the photos, showing no names.

    2. He was probably inducted somewhere convenient to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
I have a friend who was in the Navy near Ft. Sheridan, but probably in the 1960s. He remembered being told how to line up, not side by side, but "Penis to anus"!

    3. Yep, that's how they lined them up, all right. I have some pictures of such that would make a good series. Thanks for the idea, Jim!
