Halloween

It's hard to get too excited about Halloween in the time of the pandemic,

but maybe today's photos will amuse you.  Let's start with the always popular Devil.

in the 1973 AMG film Devil and the Country Boy.

 

This bizarrely masked nudists may have been done up for Carnival,

but I'm using them for Halloween.

 

This little devil got a lot of likes in a different pose last Halloween,

so he may please the Bum Brigade this time around.

 

This looks like a scene from some AMG movie,

but the "costumes" work for Halloween.

 

Although there's no liquor in sight,

this fake Indian looks like he may have been drinking.

 

Friday Double Feature, Part 1 - Sailors in Photographs

Today's double feature has to do with sailors, and we start with the photographic sort.

Something for almost everyone in this picture.  

 

This "sailor" doesn't look too self confident about his modeling,

but I'm pretty sure he eventually did OK.

 

Wouldn't real sailors have dogtags back then?

And why are they walking barefoot through the brush?

 

Mike Willette looks earnestly ready to go on deck for action . . .

even though he's in some physique photographer's studio.

 

Although not of the greatest technical photographic quality,

I get a feeling or authenticity from these two.  Maybe it's the shoes.

 

Friday Double Feature, Part 2 - Bluto

Part two of our double feature is all about Bluto, Popeye's nemesis.  (I refuse to call him Brutus, 

as later cartoon producers did, and he will always be Bluto in my mind.)  I can't be 

the only one who found Bluto far more attractive that Popeye.  Most of these images are

 modern knock-offs, but I'm declaring a big dose of artistic license for today.

 

Did the producers of Popeye ever make a version of the Sampson and Delilah story?

If they did, I don't remember it, but some modern cartoonist go inspired somehow.

Notice how that faithless tease Olive Oyl and baby Swee' Pea are fleeing in terror.

 

Here's a classic little GIF of Bluto struttin' his stuff.

 

The is obviously quite modern . . . and attractive.

In at least one cartoon, Bluto had a side gig as a carnival strong man.

This is some modern ribald cartoonist's take on that.

 

Bluto is practicing his dance moves in this still, and there's a picture of Popeye on the table.

In a few weeks I will feature some interesting images of those two together.

 

AKG Archive via Larry K. - More German Nudes

Once again, Larry K. has sent us some great photos.  This time they are classic 

German nudes from the AKG Archive. We start with a young man leaning 

against a tree as photographed by Adolf Brand around 1910.

Frieda Riess took this excellent photo of boxer Erich Brandl in 1925.

Although not unheard of (Leni Riefenstahl a bit later) female photographers 

of such material were rare in that era, even in Germany.

 

This photo of a young man reclining in front of a tree was taken by Adolf Brand about 1910.

 

Ernst Voller took this photo of two nude men boxing in 1929.

 

This is 1880s Gabriele D'Annunzio sunbathing in Francavilla al Mare, Abruzzo, Italy.  The AKG Archive didn't list the photographer's name, but considering the source, it was probably German.

There were several German photographers active in Italy at the time.

Men and Their Cars

Today we look at some men with cars.  We start with a guy practicing his high kick 

while leaning against what I think is a 1967 Pontiac GTO.

 

And here we have a typical 1950s scene.

 

I'm not sure, but I think he's buffing the paint finish in the buff.

Sorry, I couldn't resist that one.

 

My source thought this guy was gay for some reason.

 

These guys seem to be having mechanical issues with their

Pontiac Parisienne, a Canadian model at the time.

 

The car was already an antique when this picture was made in the 1970s.

 

I know it's a low quality photo, but some of you will like it anyway.

 

I've always wondered just what the guy at right is reaching for.

 

This is a stay picture about which I know

nothing . . . except that I like it a lot.

 

Texas, 1958.  The print cowboy shirt was a bit unusual for the time.

The enormous car with fins was not.

 

Fellas on the Phone

 

Today's theme is men and phones.  We start with a guy who looks like he's getting bored 

waiting for the phone to ring.  I'm sure he'll think of something to do with himself.

I don't know why he's on the phone.  He obviously has a thing going for the photographer.

 

Nobody would put the phone there unless a photographer paid them to.

 

The last time I posted a picture of this fur ball cutie, we had a lively discussion 

about what his name might be.  Several said "Ray," and someone else said Bill Sacto.  

Turns out there was an obscure photographer from the 1960s named Bill Sacto 

who did business as Cyprian Services, so this is probably "Ray by Bill Sacto."

 

You don't see those much any more.

First they were a nickel, then a dime, and finally a quarter.

Then they disappeared.

 

This is Ray Robirds, and every other photo I have of him is by Bruce of LA.

So I'm going to stick my neck out and say this one is, too.

 

They're either calling out for pizza or summoning yet another trollop to join the fun.

And he's using a princess phone, which somehow seems appropriate.

 

Trios among the Trees

Our theme for Monday is trios among the trees.

Somebody trimmed this photo with pinking shears.  Odd, that.

 

Looks like there's mayhem in the works,

but nobody seems too serious about it.

 

This might be a scene from a Bevins and Wyngate "nudist" magazine.  Or it might not.

 

Someone seems to have spotted something in the forest.  Another nude trio?

 

These three not only have trees, but a stream, too.

 

Champion Studio - A Black and White Mix

Walter Kundzicz of Champion Studio was one of the first beefcake photographers 

to do predominately color work.  So in my usual perverse bent, I will feature 

some of my favorites from his black and white photos.  We start with Bill Rex.

 

Although not nearly as prone to do so as Bob Mizer of AMG, Walter Kundzicz was fond of 

using his shower as a photo shoot setting.  This is Rock Granger in a mesh posing strap, 

a clever way to get around the censorship laws of the early 60's.

 

Doug Jackson seems to be working his way down a check list.
