Frieda Riess took this excellent photo of boxer Erich Brandl in 1925.
Although not unheard of (Leni Riefenstahl a bit later) female photographers
of such material were rare in that era, even in Germany.
Die Riess (as she was known to all who admired her portrait photos.) Born of Jewish parents, she had fallen in love with the French ambassador to Germany and married him in 1932, just before the Nazis took power. She died in 1955 in France.
