Lex Barker

Lex Barker is best known for playing Tarzan for RKO pictures in the 1950s.

 

Robin Williams

Robin Williams was one of the most beloved and tragic figures in American entertainment.  Above we see him in The Fisher King, where he and co-star Jeff Bridges went naked in Central Park.  Mr. Bridges described the 4 a.m. movie shoot as one of the most amazing experiences of his life, with Mr. Williams "being wild, free, and joyful . . . improvising like no one else could."

 

Martin Milner

Finishing with Martin Milner, the actor best known for Route 66.  Above we have 

a publicity still for the 1960 comedy movie The Private Lives of Adam and Eve.

I suspect this is an example, but I don't know which publications it is from.

This wiry guy looks like one of my neighbors who moved here 

from California so he could surf in relatively warm water.

According to my source this photo appeared in Mandate magazine in September 

of 1981 attributed to Roy Dean.  I have also seen it credited to Colt, however.

The latter was on what I frankly consider a dodgy website, fwiw.

Wyngate & Bevins

Sometime around 1966, a US court ruled that nudist magazines showing full male frontals 

were not obscene unless sexually explicit.  Typical for us Americans, someone was ready 

to make a buck.  One such was an outfit called Wyngate & Bevins which began publishing 

"nudist" magazines that were really nothing more than gay beefcake with lots of frontal nudity.  

Until full liberalization two or three years later, they had a near monopoly 

on legal male frontal nudity.  So today is Wyngate & Bevins day.

W&B sprinkled some solo shots in their publications, as in this archery shot.

 

Frolic

Carefree scenes of nude males frolicking together in the country

were standard fare in Wyngate and Bevins magazine.

 

Trio

Here we see a trio in an area that could have been used to shoot cowboy movies.

 

Bob Mizer

Not only was there overlap between the AMG model pool and W&B's stable, but Bob Mizer is widely believed to have done a considerable amount of the new outfit's photography.  This solo shot

of the handsome Ted Hudson is said to have been an example.

By the standards of the day, Wyngate & Bevins lavishly used color,

as in ths shot of four slabs of prime beef.
