Professor Desbonnet

Let's make another trip to Professor Edmond Desbonnet's gyms in Paris.  He had a whole chain of them, and I'm guessing this is one of the bigger ones.  If you look closely, you can see the mustachioed professor with a student at the bottom of the drawing.

Looks familiar

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

Clipping

This is a clipping from one of the numerous publications in which
Edmond Desbonnet published photos.  The model is, alas, unknown.

Standout

One element really stands out in this slightly blurry photo,
and I wonder if it was the reason it was taken.

Outlier

When it comes to Desbonnet photos, one does not exactly expect this rather romantic style.

Showtime

I don't know if the men in this stage show were students of Desbonnet,
but the photo is in his archive, so there's likely a link.

Acrobat

Here we get a bit of acrobatics.

Lighting

I don't know if the lighting here was intentional to accentuate certain elements, or not.
What I do know is that we can hardly see the model's head at all.

Pleasant

I find this fellow quite pleasant to look at.

John Grimek

Our closing photo of John Grimek was in Prof. Desbonnet's personal collection and is believed
to have been taken by him.  The two knew and respected each other.

Professor Edmond Desbonnet Day

We haven't had a series of Professor Edmond Desbonnet's work for a while now, so why not today?
We begin with the good professor fully clothed above and in a fig leaf below.  Sadly, he never
seems to have posed frontally nude despite having taken dozens and dozens of such images.

Jaw Dropper

I have to confess that even after a decade and a half of posting photos of nude men,
my jaw dropped the first time I took a close look at this one.  OMG!

Familiar

The model here looks familiar, but neither I nor Google seems to have a name for him.

Trio

I think the fellow at the center of this trio is a young Henri Brancaccio.

X

Mr. Scumbeast would have called this one "X marks the spot."

Staff

Like just about every art school in Paris, Prof. Desbonnet used the staff motif in his photos.

Rarity

Here we see a relatively rare outdoor photo reliably attributed to Prof. Desbonnet.

Ernest Cadine

I've posted photos of French champion weightlifter Ernest Cadine about half a dozen times,
so I was very pleased to recently find this "new" one a few months ago.  If it looks familiar,
the same setting was used in a photo I posted early in 2021.  That one shows
Mr. Cadine holding a huge barbell with a trophy on the side

Fig Leaf

Although I could do without the oversized fig leaf, the man's body leaves nothing to be scoffed at.
Of course, I have to wonder if they really needed such a big leaf to cover the goods.

Soldier?

Ending the set with a photo that may be one of Prof. Desbonnet's studies of soldiers.
The stance fits with that, but the main attraction is that package.
