John Palatinus
John Palatinus is recognized as one of the greats of physique photography
and has had several retrospective gallery shows over the decades. Frontal nudes
by him are relatively rare, however. The model here is Chuck Massey.
You can almost hear the wee-hours jazz, slow Hi-hat and saxophone, see Ida Lupino blowing smoke at the bar, waiting for this handsome mug to get back from a "job". Well, you brought up free associating...
One of the the all time greats, it was Terry Richardson and Bruce Weber who led me to his work when I read that he was the inspiration for both to become photographers.
