News Item:
Scotty Bowers has passed away at age 96. I have mentioned him from time to time in my blogs due to his claims, some confirmed and some denied, to have had sex with a number of male and female movie stars from the end of World War II into the 1960's and 70's. In fact, Bowers was quoted that it was only the arrival of AIDS in the 80's that got him out of the sex circuit. Procurement was also a Bowers specialty, and he had a long list of clients and their sometimes peculiar needs. Here is an obituary from the Washington Post:
Thank you Jerry. The obituary is very interesting and I have also read the reviews of Scotty Bowers’ memoir “Full Service”. As one reviewer wrote very eloquently, “Life and sex are both incredibly complicated and very simple. … Sex is a very natural thing. It’s society that puts labels and changing morals on sex and people. But if you strip those away you have consenting people enjoying themselves”. I have ordered a copy.
ReplyDeleteWhat struck me was that Scotty seemed to actually have some empathy for his clients . . . or was at least able to put the idea of having it across.
DeleteThere is a very good documentary about Scotty Bowers, made a year or two ago, called "Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood" that includes extensive interviews with him and a few of the men he sent out on "dates" with clients. It is on the Starz cable channel and available on Youtube, Google Play, and other outlets. He talks about his life and goes around Hollywood to some of the sites mentioned in the book. He also shows old photos that were not in the book. Fascinating documentary.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Billy! I'll look that up and watch it.
DeleteWhy are people so quick to believe this guy? Most of what he wrote has been discredited, and the gas station he wrote about never existed. This guy was so dishonest.
ReplyDeletethere WAS a station there....they found it in old phone listings for Hollywood.......it was at 5777 Hollywood Blvd., at Van Ness; there are photos, too.
DeleteWhat they call, what is it ? Oh Yes ! A star f@#*%r!
ReplyDeleteExagere un peu, mais reste un homme doux.
ReplyDeleteI have the book and the documentary. I think Scotty provided a means for people in the industry to live their fantasies and still fly under the radar.
ReplyDeleteScotty's description of a night with Spencer Tracy was a real eye opener.
