Christmas Eve with George Platt Lynes
I'm giving myself an early Christmas present by putting together a series of
George Platt Lynes' work. We start with a fairly edgy photo of Neel Bate from 1954.
It's either bondage or another take on St. Sebastian.
Jerry, you're also giving me and probably the majority of your viewers an early Christmas present too. What a treat! This is a stunning image to start the series off with.
Wonderfully Art deco. Long, lean, lithe angular physique, that amazing jaw line. So beautifully lit. Quite statuesque, yet clearly from his leg hair and bush.. very much a living man. I'll go with St. Sebastian. Always an inspiration, but I'm probably being influenced by Derek Jarman. Those curtains give a hint of Cinema too.

Working on this set was a real treat. Loved every minute, and found enough "new" material for a future series.
DeleteNever have too much St. Sebastian!
ReplyDeleteAnd this one is different.

ReplyDeleteYour cinema reference is interesting in that Lynes' had a sojourn in LA photographing Hollywood stars.
