Muybridge medley
Our set today features a variety of photos by Eadweard Muybridge. We start with an African American model who never fails to impress with his beautiful form and muscles.
This is from Animal Locomotion plate 311, called "Heaving a 75-lb rock." These two photos are late in the sequence, after he has heaved the rock. The model is model #22, Muybridge's only African-American model, named Ben Bailey, whom Muybridge referred to as a "mulatto pugilist."

ReplyDeleteThanks for the details, Larry! It takes no imagination to see this guy was a boxer.
Deletefamous for amwalking and stair climbing sequences...as well as stone throwing like here...
DeleteHe would look good an any physical activity.
DeleteWow! The muscular definition is unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteUtterly stunning. Even in the low resolution available at the time, his fine physique shines through.
ReplyDeleteSo true. Muybridge got sharper images of motion than a lot of competent photographers got with stationary models.
