Jim Stryker
This shower shot of Jim Stryker is one of only a very few full frontal
Vulcan photos I've been able to find. Anyone have more?
It is certainly the only full frontal image I have ever seen. From what I have gleaned over the years, Jim Stryker came from a very upper-crust, moneyed East Coast family like Dick Stark. Whereas I have no idea as to Mr Stark's proclivities, Mr Stryker, it was rumoured, had insatiable appetites for both men and women which is possibly why his "draped" career attracted so many male fans - and with looks like that, chasing the unobtainable is for many irresistible. I have a friend who is the spitting image of Jim Stryker and one evening over drinks, I told him the story. "Are you sure you wouldn't like to try it?" I suggested. "No need to worry about going to hell. After all, with looks like yours, by the time you were 8 feet from the earth's crust, you'd melt." He laughed and replied it wasn't the first time he'd been propositioned. Quelle surprise!
Further proof of why "attainable" models are so popular on this blog. We all appreciate the ideal, but there's great appeal for something we might actually be able to have.
There's a great locker room colour photo of Dick Stark and Jim Stryker (both wearing shorts) taken by Champion. If Mr. Stryker's appetites were insatiable I wonder if anything happened? They certainly make a most attractive pairing.
There is a photo of him taken in 1960 posing in front of an expensive British car wearing a leopard print shirt and shoes. MaleModelsfromthePast site. (the car maybe an Alvis or Lagonda, Calorman would probably know) Stryker certainly got around, being well-off he could. There is even a voice recording of him at the Queer Music Heritage site. All the Strykers that came after him owe him a debt. -Rj
This is a real treat, Jerry. I'm a big fan of Jim Stryker and hadn't seen this photo before. I'm sure I read that his first photo shoot was with Vulcan (he looks quite young here) and he wasn't that happy with the experience. After this he worked exclusively and extensively with Walter Kundzicz at Champion. He was a super model and so good that some of the clothed photos of him are amongst my favourites.

Yes, he did move on to Champion. Uncle Vic has sent me a dozen nice photos that I will post as a stand alone series in January.
DeleteThanks Jerry. That's definitely something to look forward to in the New Year!
