My granny had a gate like that going into her garden and orchard. She did now,however, have a naked man standing in . . . at least that I ever saw.
The closest to a naked man in my granny's garden was us boys, her grandsons, on the way to/from the pond.
I do think every rural house from the 30s to the 70s had that gate, though it was being replaced by chain link fence or gates where the boards were much closer together.
My cousins and I used to cool off naked in the irrigation ditches and one large holding pond that fed them. They were not near the garden gate, however, but they were near the bunkhouse, and the cowboys would join us sometimes.
