This early 20th C. photo shows a miner washing up at home
before the advent of widely available workplace showers.
Edited to add:  My friend Larry wrote an email to let me know that this photo by Lee Russell is from 1946 and was in company housing for the Mullins Mine at Hamco, WV.  No running water, but they did have electricity.  Pretty shabby for 1946!  Were these guys not unionized yet?
