I don't see how he could be paddling with that long oar from that end of the boat,
but then I'm not experienced as that sort of thing anyway.
Looks like he using the paddle to pole the boat. Looking at the grass and reeds, I suspect he is in very shallow water at the edge of the lake. Not deep enough for the oar to get any "bite". A nice, natural, athletic build - he strikes me as the kind of man who seems to be good at everything he attempts. Love the golden hair on his arms and the natural bush!
