These World War II German soldiers seem to be having fun while washing their horses.  Despite it's fearsome mechanized divisions and Panzer tank corps, the Wehrmacht was dependent on horse drawn wagons for much of its supply lines, averaging 1.1 million in use at any given time.

  1. Yes, I remember it being said that when taking German soldiers prisoner, the smell of leather and horses was most pronounced, which came as a surprise to Allied forces which were more or less entirely mechanized. It's something we would associate more with WWI.
