Bruce of LA and his sets

Bruce Bellas, better known as Bruce of LA, was an outstanding photographer who used a pretty solid collections of props and sets in his work.  Two items that show up time and time again are a corrugated metal backdrop and a diamond patterned straw floor mat.  Bruce used these in some interesting ways, even taking the mat into the desert for remote shoots.  Today we look at five studio shots of five different models featuring the two together, starting with this picture of Bill Brinkley.

  1. Having now seen "quite a few" photographs from the classic muscle men era, I now find myself looking at the props and backgrounds. Yes, that diagonal weave rush matting gets everywhere. Also bamboo.. I assume the matting covers a bare concrete floor? The grid of the matting gives a sense of perspective.

    1. I hadn't even thought of the perspective element. Thanks, as always, for your thoughtful comment!
