Fishermen
This is a detail from von Marees' mural for the
German Marine Institute in Naples, Fishermen Embarking.
I always wonder about the color representation when it come to murals. Often, we see differing versions of the same work, indicating either some sort of enhancement or better images made in the first place.
Their musculature is superb. A pity the central figure is wearing shorts. They almost seem to hover other his rear. The Arcadian landscape details throwing back to an earlier era are a rather nice addition tying in the nude figures.
The colours here are not so bright as in the works shown below. The bodies here are really accurately shown.

ReplyDeleteThose shorts look like they're about to fall off to me, and I'm disappointed that they didn't.
