drawing of two guys horsing around in a locker room is one of my personal favorites.
I gotta say, from the time I had my first gym class to the closing of my local YMCA, in all the locker rooms I've been in, I never saw this occur. How did the "myth" come about?

DeleteI think Big Dude has a point. I have been going to the gym most of my adult life and I have almost never seen this kind of horseplay in the locker room. Mostly guys seem to be rather sedate and notably polite. Of course, there was always the gay subtext, which I don't think most straight guys were really aware of until relatively recently. Since then, a lot of guys no longer go to the showers, and if they change, they often do that weird kind of "shimmy" whereby they have a towel around their waste as they remove or put on their underwear. Very strange from my point of view. In contrast, people in the mainstream media are convinced that all kinds of wild behavior goes on (and don't even mention the plots of every other gay porn film ever made!). You figure it out! ReplyDeleteWhat you say about current practice is unfortunately true. My high school experience was in the mid-60s, and one or two of the coaches joined in. Haven't seen anything as crazy as the drawing since.
