I could only come up with eight photographers for my European favorites list, and we start with Giancarlo Zampetti by Barrington. Yes, I frequently complain about the lack of technical quality in Barrington's work, but there's no denying the man's importance and influence.
I will never, ever understand how someone as artistic - if slipshod - as John Barrington could systematically and methodically have such awful backdrops to his photographs. I know post-war Britain was run down and tatty, but that wallpaper beggars belief and is in invert ghastliness to the refined handsomeness of his subject.

Right. Even Miss Magnolia Thunderpussy would have agreed . . . after first excoriating the decor.
