Unknowns by Al Urban

Al Urban's work has been noted by more than one observer to stand out in two ways.
First, he apparently didn't do a lot of derriere photos.  (More about that later in today's series.)
Second, he used many competitive bodybuilders for models, so a relatively high proportion
of them are known.  Today, I will be featuring some of Mr. Urban's unknown models
(at least to me), starting with a picture thought to be from early in his career.
Disclosure:  I had to remove yellowing and raise the contrast to make this one viewable.

    1. Right. I have those other pictures of Mr. Kuchler, but didn't recognize him. I really need to invest in some software to help with that . . . but I'm too cheap, and I have you to fall back on, lol.

  2. After scrolling through perhaps 30 pages on your site, I figured I might as well ask a strange question. I've been looking for years now for an image I once found in a torrent entitled "Major Dad's Vintage Nudes". The hard drive that I had it on died a few year back. But let me give you a description: It's a nude man with his leg propped up on a 1963 Pontiac Tempest in the desert. In the background, you can see the interstate. I'm guessing this was taken sometime in the 1960's. The photograph is in black and white. You can clearly see the Tempest front end. This photo is not to be confused with another male nude with a guy in front of what looks to be a Pontiac Catalina from 1968. I can find that image pretty fairly easily. But any help you might have in finding the image I've mentioned about the guy in the desert with his leg on the hood would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for all your devotion and work!

Update: I originally sent my question through the normal messaging system and kept clicking through your site in another tab. The page where I sent the question just kept saying "sending". Then I ran up on your post from February 26, 2022 where you mentioned the issues with Google. Oops! I'm going to keep clicking through your site. You say you've been collecting images since the late 1970's? Good! Actually, GREAT! Someone out there must know of this image that I'm describing. The only other thing I can think of in my description is that it appears to be somewhere in California. The gentleman with his leg on the hood has shortly cut hair, which is dark. If I had to guess when the photograph was taken, I'd say it was probably 1965. The photo does not have a "hippie" vibe to it. Again, thanks for all your hard work.

    1. I just reviewed all my files with cars in them, and I do not seem to have the one you are looking for. You may find it helpful to use the topic list on the right side of this page to find specific types of images. I hope you find it!

    2. Thank you for your prompt response! It's funny, I'd hardly call myself a vintage image enthusiast, but because of this years-long search to find this single image, I'm quickly becoming one. Just scrolling through the pages and reading the comments, I've learned things that I never knew (not to mention some of the names of the models). I'm sure at some point I'll find the image that I'm looking for. When I do find it, I'm sending it directly to you! Again, thank you for all your hard work. Some may find it frivolous, but documentation for future generations is important. Just this past week, a friend of mine suggested that I watch Word is Out (1977) and in turn, I had him watch Gay USA (also from 1977). I was 8 years old when those films were released. I was moved as if I were right there in those moments. You're doing great work, so again, THANK YOU!

    3. Thank you for your kind words! One of the main reasons I do this is to raise awareness about gay freedom of expression . . . how restricted it was in the past, how much progress we made 1968-2016, and how much danger we are in of losing what we struggled so hard to achieve. I'm very pleased that you find the blog to be informative and helpful. Let me know if you have a request for a particular theme, photographer, or model. I love to do requests, and I always respond to thoughtful comments and messages.
