1970s
These two men in sarongs are from about 1977. I bet the guy on the left went to the tea dance wearing a white t-shirt and a pair of gym shorts. He may have worn a coach's whistle around his neck.
For those brave enough to wear one, a sarong can be a very elegant garment. And I remember those whistles - absolutely deafening over the sound system in Heaven. What with the volume, the lights, the lasers and the whistles, you left that place feeling as if you'd been assaulted... but it was worth it: it was the largest gay dance floor in Europe and the numbers there were so large they were only out-numbered on Pride marches. Quite an experience.

ReplyDeleteReminds me of the Parade disco which was upstairs over the Bourbon Pub in New Orleans.
DeleteThoughts of the guy on the left wearing a white t-shirt and a pair of gym shorts are getting me all excited. You know me, Jerry!
ReplyDeleteLol, I should by now.
