No. 5 - The Navy
These three World War I Navy men came in at number five,
surprisingly, the only purely military photo in the top ten.
I'd like to know exactly what was going on here. I wonder if it was a swimming lesson. All cadets in the Royal Navy had to be able to swim a length - except for my father, of course, who always insisted that he couldn't swim. How he got away with that at Dartmouth I shall never know. Needless to say, modesty was not an issue.
Most of these photos made on ships were recreational swimming. Perhaps surprisingly, I've only been able to find less than a dozen photos of namy swim lessons. Your Dad mush have been persuasive.
