I never cease to be fascinated by the pioneering work of George Platt Lynes. Lately, some previously unknown male nudes have surfaced that were not part of his donation to the Kinsey Institute. They tend to appear on high end resale websites, leaving me to think they were given to close friends and associates whose estates are now selling them. Only about half of today's images fall into that category, however. This brilliant photo of an unknown model is from 1955, the last year of Lynes' life when he was already quite ill. He was a genius right to the end.
could be this be George P Lynes, himself?
ReplyDeleteLynes was very thin, even before he was diagnosed with lung cancer. As this has been dated to the last year of his life, I doubt it was him. But I could be wrong . . . I've been wrong lots of times.
DeleteDid Lynes wore a bracelet? The model had one on the left wrist
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a picture of him with one, but that doesn't mean he didn't wear one.
DeleteDo I say "fantastic series" too much? Because this one is. Lynes' photography is old masters quality. And for some reason, I really like the above image. Err... fantastic work, Jerry.
ReplyDeleteI can never hear that too much, Leroy!
