Mystery painting

I saved what is, in my opinion, the best for last.  Surprisingly, this painting (probably academic) was prominently featured in the 2016 Sofia exhibit of male nudes, but not identified by artist in any of the citations.  It even showed up in an online piece on a Bulgarian news website.  My best guess is that it came from one of the regional museums which are not as well curated as the National.  The light, posing, and color are quite good.  If anyone knows anything about it, please comment.

    1. Nor would I. Putting this series together was a real eye opener.

  2. Looks like most of the artists favored "dad bods"-Dee Exx

  3. This "Mystery Painting" appears contemporary to me. I is similar in technique to current "academic" paintings I've seen. I may be wrong, it's just a gut feeling based on stuff I've seen.

    1. The hat looks early 20th Century to me, but there is a possibility that it could be modern.

  4. Certainly mysterious. Slightly awkward placement of left foot. Colours look a little too rich to be turn of the century. Evoking a lost era? Love the boater. I've posed with mine several times.
