Vic Seipke by Spectrum
I recall reading somewhere that Spectrum Studio took this color slide
of Vic Seipke during a break in the Mr. Michigan competition.
Vic Seipke worked as a fireman in Michigan. He won the Mr Michigan competition in 1951, which would date what was a series of colour slides to that year. The Spectrum slides have proved to be veritable hardy perennials not merely for their vivid colour at a time of majority monochrome photography and Vic Seipke's extraordinary physique but because an undersized posing strap left nothing to the imagination. If Spectrum were flipping the bird at the moralists, Mr Seipke got away with it by being without equivocation on the bona fide bodybuilding circuit and beyond reproach - even though it was quite clear at the time that he couldn't have given a fiddler's elbow to what purpose his photography was put.
Vic Seipke was born in 1932 and died on August 20th, 2023, in Florida aged 91. God speed, Mr Seipke, and thank you.

I didn't know that he had recently passed away after such a long and successful life.
DeleteSad to hear, I'm sure, a favourite of many of us.
DeleteVery handsome man and the male pattern baldness suits him well.
ReplyDeleteEverything about him suits me.
DeleteAnd me. One of my early "finds" as a younger man. Inspiring.
