I've been meaning to do another Colt Studio series for some time, and I can think of no better way to start than with this picture Steve Kelso. Jim French hit his stride at Colt in the late 1960s, a time when liberalization of the US obscenity laws opened the floodgates of frontally nude male photos. While some photographers were shooting hundreds of shots of any twink or trollop willing to strip, Mr. French specialized in beefier, slightly older models, and for that we should be grateful.

I have no words ... except "Thank you, King."
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Leroy!
DeleteKelso was one of my favourite Colt models. Thanks, Jerry, for showing him with a hard on.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome!
DeleteI met Steve when he was doing a show in a local bar. He seemed like a really nice guy and I hung on to that pic for years... Thanks for the memories triggered in this series!
ReplyDeleteLucky you! I'm glad this brought pleasant memories.
DeleteOh, yes...that still hits the spot. 40 years on, this type of guy gets my attention.
ReplyDeleteMine, too!
DeleteYes, this is Steve Kelso. Lol. Colt really knew what the public wanted to see. Mature men, the key word being men!
ReplyDeleteSome other smart photographers followed Jim French's lead after a whlie, but in his early years he was the one and only completely twink free outlet.
DeleteHe was beautiful. Sometime around '91 (he was more of a 90s model than 80s), he made an appearance at a "Different Light" Bookstore in W. Hollywood (Calif.)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he had a massive turnout in West Hollywood!
DeleteSteve had aged well, like a fine wine. For more great pics and info about him, check out his Fb page.
ReplyDeleteThanks, vv!
